DIY Healthy Dog Treat Recipe - Immune System Boost Blueberry, Coconut, Rooibos



Boost your dog’s immune system with this simple DIY treats - packed with anti-inflammatory agents, health promoting antioxidants, and essential nutrients.



Ingredients
  • 1 cup organic, brewed, cooled Rooibos Tea.
  • 1 tbs coconut oil, organic, unrefined, or fresh pureed avocado.
  • ½ cup organic fresh, or fresh-frozen blueberries pureed, or use tart red cherries. 
  • ½ cup finely minced or chopped real raw meat.
    • Choose red meat, poultry or wild-caught cold water fatty fish. 
    • Don’t used highly processed meats – i.e. hot dogs, salami, ham or other highly processed meats.
    • If your dog is on a raw food diet don’t cook the meat.
    • If your dog has never eaten raw meat, gently cook the meat in a little healthy oil – i.e. organic: coconut oil, avocado oil, olive oil, or sesame oil.

Optional Ingredients

  • 1 tsp of one, or all of the following anti-inflammatory herbs/spices - use organic only...
  • 1 tsp Ceylon cinnamon (also known as Real Cinnamon).
  • 1 tsp Ginger.
  • 1 tsp Turmeric.
    • If using turmeric, you can also include a sprinkle of fresh ground organic black pepper.
  • 1 tbs Honey
    • Use only raw, unpasteurized, 100% pure honey. 
    • If your dog is under 1 year of age, leave the honey out of the recipe.

Preparation
  • Pour the tea into a mixing bowl.
  • Add the pureed berries and minced/finely chopped meat.
  • Blend together.
  • Pour into ice cube trays.
  • Place trays in freezer, allow several hours to freeze.

Serving
  • Serve as a treat.
  • Can be given daily.
  • Note - blueberry, tart red cherry and turmeric contain powerful natural dyes – make sure your dog eats his/her treats on a surface you can easily clean – not on carpet!
